The God of small things

Inspired by the poetry and magic of the story „The God of small things“ by Arundhati Roy, a series of 12 monotypes (each 23 x 31 cm) was created in 2021.

The monotype is an immediate technique, in which nothing can be corrected or taken back. As a result, the focus in the artistic process is on personal and immediate perception. It is less about reproducing the content of the narrative in a precise manner, but rather about tracking down the emotional and poetic content and transforming it into an artistic language of its own.

The God of loss.
The God of small things.

He left no footprints in sand,
no ripple in water,
no image in mirror.

(Cap 12)

In those early amorphous years
when memory had only just begann,
when life was full of beginnings and no ends,
and everything was forever,
Esthappen and Rahel thought of themselves together as Me and seperately,
individual
as we or us.

(Cap 1)

If you are happy in a dream, Ammu, does that count?

   (Cap 11)

It was a time
when the unthinkable became thinkable
and the impossible
really happened.

         (Cap 1)

Things can change in a day.
It was a boat.
A tiny wooden vallom.
The boat that Estha sat on and Rahel found.
